I was "fixin' "ta" go bushhawg the field cuz I heared it was gorn rain but "hits" so hot out "dar" dat I jiz stayed on the porch. I figger dat I save all my energy fer suppa. Yuins may think I am makin this up but hits the way they tawk around here....I actually kind of like it. The Appalachian dialect is very old and has changed very little.

why thankya dawlin'. I did a field research project on the dialect up here in Mars Hill for a class I had. I really enjoyed it. I kind of enjoy the lull of their dialect. At first I had a hard time understanding several of the people I would speak with. I would be like "huh?" "What?"

When you come to America to vosit me you will see what I mean! LOL! But more than likely you will be the more entertaining one around these parts with your english.

If you like, I'm good at faking a German accent and a French one. I love speaking English like I'm a Frenchman. It's just hilarious. I usually do it when I'm starting to get drunk. Weird how I can fake those accents, but I can't fake the english or american kind. It's probably because I never speak it. I'll try it next time I'm wasted.

when we were in Norway visiting I had a guy think I was a swedish girl pretending to be american! Apparently this is what some girls do. ~L~ I had to pull out my passport to prove him wrong. Then he told my husband, who is a native Swede and speaks all the scandinavian languages, that his norwegian sounds like that of a bosnian refugee (They have a lot of immigrants from that area, and they have to learn the native tongue). My husband was a little annoyed at the guys remark.

Yeah, they say some people find that to be exotic and exciting. Boring! When I was in The Hague a roommate did the same thing. Pretending to be English. It worked. I had to bang on the walls nearly every night for them to keep quiet.

I couldn't pull it off. I think.
